Apache Won't Start
Apache Won't Start
After checking Sys Prefs/Sharing/Personal Web Sharing, the Start box goes gray but nothing happens. Also the links for Apache + my personal website are not there to click. Apache Web Server was able to start on my first try but not anytime after. I think that first start came after booting Tiger 10.4.11 into Safe Mode (to correct some minor errors), but nothing since. How can I get Apache functioning again? I am not much of a techie so please make your reply easy to follow. Thanks, Ken.
Re:Apache Won't Start
Hello, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these files to the Desktop. (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.) /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist /Library/Preferences/com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist (Then Trash the original of this last one, as "moving" it only copies it.) Then reboot once more.
Re:Apache Won't Start
Hi BDAqua. No luck. Even "HTTPD" is nowhere in Activity Monitor. I even made an attempt at the "sudo apachectl restart" fix in Terminal which said that Apache was now starting but such was not the case. Interestingly Apache works fine in Panther on my iMac G3/400. Anyways, as a plan B, I can always use the free web space hosting from my ISP which is even more reliable. Not into taking a lot of time to fix this, just thought there might be an easy fix. Thanks, Ken.
Re:Apache Won't Start
BDAqua. I am not into starting a new admin account. Got the info from my ISP + One Button FTP. This is for the future, just in case I want to create a website. I have a couple of other options I want to try, will report back if successful. Thanks, Ken.
Re:Apache Won't Start
Notes that may or may not be helpful... Besides another admin account being useful to determin if it's a user problem, or a system wide problem... A: It doesn't use all that much space on the HDD. B: I keep at least one spare admin account on every drive, just in case somrting gets really torqued in the normal admin accoun & ithas real problems... it gives you the option of booting into a pristine admin account to recover things, or use to fix things.
Re:Apache Won't Start
Thanks BDAqua (please forgive me for not replying sooner, 11pm where I am, had to crash!!). I'll take that into account, when I get some time, might try that. As I was saying, I have no plans for a website yet, just checking my options. Thanks for your help, you have always been helpful. Ken.
