ATV2 doesn't retain Apple ID password

I don't know whether this is a fault or a deliberate feature, but every time I use my ATV2 with any function that requires my Apple ID, I have to re-enter the pasword. This is despite clicking on the 'Remember Password' button every time, and sometimes has to take place, slowly and laboriously as the process is, on a big TV screen in front of a roomfull of people whom I might prefer not to know my password. I guess there's a time-out operating at Apple's end of the process, but if so, why can't it be over-ridden by the 'Remember Password' button, which is otherwise meaningless?
