some photos not seen in book

I am making a photo book and cannot see some of the photos that are supposedly there.  There is just a colored box instead of showing the picture.  When I click on the colored box, it brings up the correct picture, but when I look at the layout of the book, or view a slideshow, it only shows a colored box.  In the photos panel to the right it shows a check mark and the page that the photo is supposed to be on, but I don't see the photo.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I followed the instructions and previewed the book, and the missing photos are still missing.  There's just a colored rectangle where the photo is meant to be.Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I have had this for a while with other photos. I had been able to correct it by changing some aspect of the photo, cropping, straightening, etc. However, I have one photo that is resisting being restored. Printing to a pdf file or just previewing the file shows the photo as a colored box.  By shifting things around, I note an additional feature associated with the file. It appears the photo is completely transparent. I am using a theme that partly overlaps some photos. If the erroroneous photo is on the top, the frame shows up, but the photo beneath it shows through as if it wasn't there. The photo is present as I can see the image in the editing options. I have also quit, rebuilt the database, and restored thumbnails. I don't think that is where the problem lies, I think it is some characteristic of the page or theme.  I can place this photo as a background in the page and it appears normally. When I place it on the page, it is present, but it is completely transparent and appears as a colored box.

Update, I exported and reimported the photo, no change. My final work around was to move the photo to another page. It appears correctly.
