backup extraction

Hello,

My iphone was recently stolen, and my backup was stored onto my windows laptop. which is no longer functioning, so i removed my HDD and did a data transfer to my mac. I located my backups to retrieve my contacts and when i created the MediaSync folder in the app support section and pasted my backup folder in there, itunes still reads no backup data. I do not have another device to backup and for the folder to be created, so im kinda at a loss. please help.
