If they both have wireless card built-in then it should be possible. Allan

In addition to Allan's response, you can also create an ad hoc network between two Macs if both are equipped for wireless. An ad hoc network is great if you just want to share files between two or more Macs. When you set up an ad hoc network, your Mac assigns itself an IP address in the 169.254.x.x range; Macs that connect to your network pick up addresses in that range so they can communicate. To set up an ad hoc network:From the OS X menu bar, click on the AirPort icon, and then, choose the Create Network option.Enter the desired network name, pick a channel (Automatic is the default and should be fine), and then, check Require Password if you want your ad hoc wireless network to be secure. (Well, as secure as WEP can provide.)Click OK to create the ad hoc network. (Note: The fan-shaped AirPort icon will change to reflect that you now have an ad hoc network running.<
